The Consumer Challenge quiz is a fun, national competition for children at Special Schools. It has received an award from the European Commission for the most original idea for a consumer campaign.
Local schools are invited to take part in the Kent Consumer Challenge Quiz, with the winning team going on to represent Kent at the national final which is held at the Trading Standards national conference.
The competition is designed to help students with moderate learning difficulties become more aware of their role as citizens. Questions cover consumer issues such as signs and symbols, safety, shoppers' rights and legal matters.
The Kent quiz takes place in November each year. The winning team goes on to represent Kent at the national final held during the annual Trading Standards Institute's National Conference in June.
Six teams took part in the Kent challenge quiz which took place at the Wyvern School, Ashford in November 2010. The teams, each of 4 students, were from Bower Grove School, Maidstone, Broomhill Bank School, Tunbridge Wells, Five Acre Wood School, Maidstone, Oakley School, Tunbridge Wells, Ridge View School, Tonbridge and the Wyvern School, Ashford.

It was a close contest with the teams cheered on by their enthusiastic supporters, and in the end just one point decided the competition with the cup going to Bower Grove School, Maidstone, who will now represent Kent at the National final in Bournemouth in June 2011.
Students from Ashford School and Highworth Grammar School for Girls volunteered to help out with the competition. They were a credit to their schools making a valuable contribution to the day with their friendly, helpful attitude and willingness to help out with all the jobs that needed to be done.
