National e-Consumer Week

The theme of the event this year is online shopping. The message is Be Safe Online – beware of fake sites and fake products.

Junior Apprentice Arjun Rajyagor, who runs a computer repair business from his home, will be the face of the campaign, reaching out to the teenage age group, the generation most likely to be not only prolific online shoppers, but may also be reckless.

National Consumer Week is an annual national event organised by the Trading Standards Institute. The first event was held in 1988 and it has grown from strength to strength. Local Authorities support the week with competitions, information stands and other activities, from plays in schools to events in shopping centres.  Local events in 2010 (PDF 80KB)

The week is also used to remind consumers of how they can access advice through Consumer Direct, the UK European Consumer Centre and the UK Consumer Centre for Services and alert them to the work carried out on their behalf by trading standards  professionals across the UK.
