Cattle that have been refused passports

(for Scotland)

Enter your postcode in the field at the bottom of this page to see if your local authority trading standards service has the full leaflet version available on its website.

An application for a passport for a calf must be made within 27 days of its birth. If you have recently applied to the BCMS to be issued with cattle passports and the passport has been refused. You may be able to appeal although grounds for appeal are limited and you will need to show there were exceptional circumstances that stopped you making the application on time (such as ill health or bereavement).

Cattle without passports may not be moved off the holding alive. If you have cattle over 48 months old that are killed on farm they will need to be tested for BSE.
