This concerns the law relating to the disposal of deer carcases, parts of deer and products of deer origin, not intended for human consumption. The Regulations apply to:

  • farmed deer (kept within a ring fence) are controlled in the same way as other farmed livestock and must be disposed of without undue delay in an approved manner: rendering, incineration or to authorised premises - for example, knacker’s yards or hunt kennels. Records must be kept of the disposal
  • wild deer, if suspected of being infected with a disease communicable to humans or animals (in which case this must be notified to the local animal health office), must be disposed of by rendering or incineration
