From October 2011 pig movements can be reported either online using the free eAML2 system, or via the telephone / in writing using a bureau service provided by BPEX.

The movement of pigs must comply with the general licence for the movement of pigs issued under the Disease Control Order. Subject to certain exceptions once pigs have been moved onto premises no pigs can be moved off them for 20 days and other stock six days. A movement document must accompany pigs being moved and if moving to slaughter in addition, a food chain information document.

Records must be kept of the movement of pigs in the correct format and the pigs must be correctly identified.

Swill and catering waste cannot be fed to any pig.

Persons keeping pigs for the first time must give notice of the fact to Defra AHVLA.
