If an animal is to be slaughtered outside a licensed slaughterhouse, it must be killed humanely, in accordance with the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter and Killing) Regulations 1995, the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and the Welfare of Farmed Animals (Scotland) Regulations 2010.
Animal by-products must be disposed of in accordance with the Animal By-Products (Enforcement) (Scotland) Regulations 2011.
An alternative is to have the sheep slaughtered by a mobile slaughterhouse operator who will dispose of specified risk material (SRM) and animal by-products in accordance with Scottish Government Rural Directorate and/or Defra requirements for you.
