This provides guidance to manufactures and packers on the legislation applicable to jam and similar products.

Whilst it is generally understood what ‘jam’ is, there are many other products that fall into the ‘similar products’ category. These include jelly, marmalade, curd and mincemeat. The leaflet explains the criteria that are set out in both the metrology and food labelling regulations covering these products.

Products covered in these regulations must contain specific quantities of fruit per kilogram of product. The leaflet states these amounts and also the specific prescribed weight quantities that these products must be packed in.

The leaflet also states the requirements for ‘extra’ jams, and jelly, jelly marmalade, chestnut puree, curds, and mincemeats.
