Do you sell at car boot sales?

What started out as a friendly and informal way of selling surplus household goods as turned into a business venture for some people. There are now people who make a living by selling at car boot sales and many may now be classed as traders. Many car boot sales regularly attract genuine small businesses but there are also those who may be masquerading as a private individual but who are in fact trading.

There are legal obligations, requirements and general advice you should be aware of both as a trader, and as a private individual merely disposing of excess household items. There is additional guidance from the police and advice about the dangers of selling ball-bearing guns.

In some areas there may be local authority licensing requirements to consider and you should enquire about this if you wish to sell at such events.
