If a trader with whom you are in dispute is a member of a trade association, or is regulated by a professional body, you may be able to get help and/or expert opinions from that body. There are a number of associations in all different areas such as building, carpets, cars, commercial services, communications, electrical goods, holidays, insurance and property.

Postwatch, Energywatch, and the National Consumer Councils of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have recently merged to form Consumer Focus (new website), a new body to represent consumers’ interests. They are linked with Consumer Direct (new website) who can offer advice and information on how to progress complaints.
