A guide to choosing and using store cards

Many retailers offer credit facilities to their customers. Most major retailers offer a form of credit card called a storecard. You will be asked to complete and sign a credit agreement (a copy of which should be given to you). Check the agreement carefully. You will find out what the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is plus other useful information. If later you change your mind, you may not have the right to cancel. Before you sign, check to see if there is a cooling-off period.

There are other factors to check your agreement for such as payment protection insurance. When you pay for goods using a storecard and the items costs more than £100, you are protected by the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (as amended).
