goods - how to solve your problems

(for England, Wales and Northern Ireland)

Enter your postcode in the field at the bottom of this page to see if your local authority trading standards department has the full leaflet version available on its website.

If you wish to reject goods, you must stop using them immediately. You will need to show the trader proof of purchase. You may not be entitled to reject the goods but instead ask for a repair, replacement or compensation. If the condition of the goods is disputed you may need to seek an independent expert opinion.

There are guidelines for whose responsibility this is. Court should be a last resort. You should speak to the trading standards service if you believe there has been a criminal offence committed, eg unsafe product or misleading price indication.
