The Wheeled Child Conveyances (Safety) Regulations 1997 state that all prams and pushchairs, both new and used, should conform to British Standard 7409:1996. This British Standard sets out the safety requirements for prams and pushchairs to be used for one or more children, including such things as types of material used to make the pram or pushchair, construction, parking and folding devices, the safety harness, labelling and instructions on use and maintenance. There are a number of visual checks a consumer can carry out when examining a new or second hand chair that will indicate compliance.
