Consumer advice and information in Brighton & Hove is now provided by Consumer Direct South East. Consumer Direct is a telephone and online consumer advice service, which is supported by local authorities in the South East of England, and by the Department of Trade and Industry.

If you are worried about the sale of age-restricted products  such as alcohol or tobacco to children or have any concerns about alcohol-related anti-social behaviour, then you can help Trading Standards by letting us know if any shops in your area are illegally selling goods to children. Buy With Confidence

Rip-offs, scams—consumers are right to be wary when

buying goods and services.

The Buy With Confidence scheme is an initiative by the Trading Standards Service in Brighton & Hove, in conjunction with other services in the South East to help businesses comply with the law.

The Buy With Confidence Scheme brings together a list of gardeners, plumbers, builders and many other types of business who have been individually checked for trustworthiness and compliance with consumer protection laws. Each applicant is individually checked and is only accepted onto the scheme when they pass stringent checks.

If you have a problem with a member of the scheme they are required to deal with any complaints in a fair and equitable manner. If the complaint cannot be resolved, the Trading Standards Service will attempt to assist in reaching a solution.

Coming soon Support With Confidence

As Adult Social Care changes residents will have more choice and more control over the support needs they may have. Support with Confidence is a new council initiative and is a partnership between Adult Social Care and Trading Standards. It will provide a database of approved Personal Assistants (PAs). These Personal Assistants will have had enhanced checks and will have completed standard training so you can be confident about the quality of support you engage.
