This week's questions and answers are:
Copyright is a form of legal protection that gives the author, artist, creator or composer of certain works (or their employer) the right to prevent another person copying or exploiting their work.
For sound recordings the copyright lasts for 50 years.
The Commissioner has proposed that this should be extended to 95 years.
A Trade Mark is any sign that can distinguish the goods and services of one trader from those of another. It can include words, logos, pictures, etc.
In the UK trade marks are registered with the Intellectual Property Office (previously known as the Patent Office). www.ipo.gov.uk/about.htm
The maximum penalties in each case are an unlimited fine and up to ten years imprisonment.
We hope you will check your skills again next week.
