All initial requests for Consumer Advice and information in Coventry is now provided by Consumer Direct. Coventry Trading Standards will continue to operate an Advice Service to consumers but only in relation to cases that are referred to us by Consumer Direct that require specialist help.

Consumer Direct is a telephone and online consumer advice service, which is supported by Local Authorities in the West Midlands and by Government. Consumer Direct works in partnership with Local Authority Trading Standards Services offering clear, practical first level advice and information on a wide range of consumer issues. More complex problems or complaints requiring further investigation or assistance are referred to Trading Standards or other advice services.

X5 Phones Ltd trading as Innovate Phones in Liquidation - Update: 14/09/07

Coventry Trading Standards are issuing the following information and advice to customers following the closure of X5 Phones Ltd trading as Innovate Phones of 20 Market Way, Coventry. Following a Creditor's meeting on 13/09/07, Sharma & Co of 257 Hagley Road, Birmingham B16 9NA have been appointed as Liquidator.

The Liquidator has advised that customer's who have taken out mobile phone contracts on a cashback agreement through Innovate Phones will not get any further cashbacks.

Customer's affected by the closure of Innovate Phones can register a claim with the Liquidator by writing to Sharma & Co at the above address or by telephoning 0121 454 2700. Customer's owed money will be classed as unsecured creditors but from the information supplied by the Liquidator customer's should not expect anything. Unfortunately this means that customer's will be liable for the full cost of the airtime contract so it is vitally important for anyone affected to maintain their payments for line rental and calls.

Trading Standards are advising customer's to contact their airtime company to ask them to release them from their contract, however whether companies do this will depend on their goodwill. However, airtime companies may be willing to reduce the tariff you are on to cut the monthly line rental.
