The Licensing Section deal with:
- All applications for premises which require licensing and ensure that they meet required standards.
- Ensure that hackney carriages and private hire vehicles are mechanically safe.
- Maintaining standards for vehicles used as taxis or private hire vehicles.
- Checking that all drivers of vehicles are responsible and safe.
- Control all house to house and street collections.

Care About Being Safe
Make sure your Taxi or Private Hire car has a sign that shows it is registered and licensed.
All drivers carry identification and must produce it if asked.
Look for 5 important items every time you use a Taxi or Mini Cab. These following items will ensure that you are travelling in safety:
- Two Door Stickers - one at each side (Private Hire Mini Cabs).
- Two Plates - one back and front.
- Once inside the vehicle the driver will have a badge which should be worn on his/her person.
- A small plate displaying the same No. as the plates outside back and front, fixed inside on the dashboard.
- Small window sticker with test dates, vehicle no. and registration no.

The Statement of Licensing Policy aims to secure public safety, protect children from harm, prevent public nuisance and prevent crime and disorder whilst encouraging a sustainable leisure and entertainment industry.
