Squaring the circle - how to halve the cost of a prosecution and double its chances of success.

With budgets tight and economy of resources a priority this workshop is aimed at providing a step by step guide to maximising both the effectiveness and efficiency of trading standards prosecutions. Principal speakers David Groome and Ari Alibhai, specialist trading standards/intellectual property barristers from QEB Hollis Whiteman Chambers, will lead the workshop by setting out a case study designed to highlight areas during both the investigation and eventual prosecution of a defendant where costs can be reduced without any negative impact on the quality of the evidence presented. In the second part of the seminar, representatives from FACT and the BPI will set out what assistance and support they can provide in copyright and trade mark prosecutions.

The workshop will conclude with a confiscation based quiz, designed to test your knowledge of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, with the winner receiving a brand new lightweight “Netbook” computer.
