What is the fair trading award?

  • a unique training programme to help your business and staff understand trading regulations, so they can protect customer interests and promote good business
  • recognised as best practice by the Local Authority Assured Trader Scheme Network (LAATSN)
  • developed for the whole of the UK and adapted for the differences in law - in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Who is the FTA suitable for?

  • all sizes and types of organisations - from sole traders to large international companies
  • anyone who supplies goods and services to the public
  • all levels of staff from part-time employees to managers.

How will business benefit?

  • your staff and managers will become more confident when dealing with customers
  • dealing fairly with customers saves time and money from unnecessary payouts or claims
  • increased customer confidence enables informed choices and purchases

How is it structured?

The programme consists of three individual training courses to cater for staff who require different levels of knowledge:

  • introduction to fair trading award - half-day course
  • intermediate fair trading - one-day course, or a combination of two half-day modules
  • advanced fair trading - one-day course (to be taken only after successfully completing the intermediate level).

The courses enable delegates to take an individual award (note: the advanced course can only be taken after the intermediate course), or to enter at the introductory level and progress through the programme.
