Intermediate award

This course is designed for all staff including those in:
  • supervisory and management roles
  • customer service departments
  • the shop floor
  • contact centres
  • customer relationship roles
  • regulatory compliance departments.
You can complete the intermediate award in two ways. You can attend a one-day, face-to-face course, delivered by a TSI accredited trainer, as outlined below:
  • the trading standards officer's role
  • the national home authority principle and the primary authority impact
  • what to expect from a trading standards visit
  • consumer protection laws, including the Sale of Goods Act 1979, the Sale of Goods and Services Act 1982 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008
  • criminal law and legal defences
  • age-restricted products
  • civil contract law and implied terms
  • product safety.

Alternatively, you can mix and match any of the following half-day modules. You will need to take two of the half-day modules to complete the intermediate award:

  • compliance foundations for all business
  • age-restricted sales
  • primary authority
  • consumer protection regulations.

The one-day course and half-day modules include an exam at the end of the session. Upon successful completion of the intermediate level, you may then take the advanced course.
