Help for the Visually Impaired

People with a useful amount of vision may find they are able to use the internet simply by increasing the font size, or changing their browser colour scheme to suit their preferences. This is accessed through 'Internet Options' within Internet Explorer or 'Preferences' in Netscape Navigator.

Alternatively, a screen magnification utility can enlarge the text and images on the computer screen. These can also alter the text and graphics size, and will enlarge the menus and dialogue boxes.

Those with little or no vision can read the internet using speech output and refreshable braille displays. This facility allows the website to be read aloud to the user or the text is displayed on a device positioned underneath the keyboard.

Detailed information on Web access for the visually impaired is available from the Royal National Institute for the Blind's website at www.rnib.org.uk.
