What We Do

The Trading Standards Service protects consumers and local businesses.

 

Our areas of responsibility include product safety, rogue traders, food quality and weights and measures.

 

We also work to protect the health and welfare of farm animals preventing the spread of diseases such as foot and mouth.

 

We provide detailed help and advice to consumers and local businesses. 

We carry out our duties by:

  • Investigating complaints about goods and services

  • Sampling and testing products

  • Inspecting trade premises

  • Carrying out projects & surveys into various products and trade practices

  • Advising consumers and businesses

  • Producing information

  • Taking enforcement action
