Our Animal Health team enforces legislation designed to protect livestock and farm animals. Responsibilities include monitoring and influencing the standards of animal health and welfare on farms, in transport and at markets, to ensure that they are protected from cruelty and avoidable pain and prevent the spread of disease. Gloucestershire County Council has published an Animal Welfare Charter setting out the council's policy on safeguarding standards of animal health and welfare. |

There is a contingency plan in place should there be an outbreak of avian flu in Gloucestershire. Full details and relevant links are on the Emergency Management pages of the County Council website.
8 July 2008
The surveillance zone and remaining disease control area restrictions put in place following the outbreak of H7N7 avian influenza in Oxfordshire have been lifted.
Surveillance has shown that infection appears to have been contained to the single premises, and 30 days have now elapsed since preliminary cleansing and disinfection was completed on that premises.
Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer Alick Simmons said:
If you suspect that your birds have avian influenza, you should report it to your local Animal Health Office immediately.
Under the Avian Influenza (Preventive Measures) Regulations 2005 it is now a legal requirement for keepers of 50 or more commercial poultry to keep a register.
Contact us for details of the information that must be kept. We can also send you a leaflet outlining the symptoms of Avian Influenza and recommended bio security measures. |
