Weighbridge Operators Licence

Why is a licence required?

To operate a public weighbridge, you require a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector for Weights and Measures for Gloucestershire County Council.

How to apply

  1. Apply Online

  2. Or, contact us to arrange for a Trading Standards Officer to visit. You can email our weights and measures team, use our Enquiry Form, or call using the contact details on the right of this page.

Can I assume my licence is granted if I don't hear from Gloucestershire County Council within a reasonable time?

No. Before a certificate can be obtained a weighbridge operator must be assessed by a Trading Standards Officer. Where a person is deemed to be competent a certificate will be issued which is valid indefinitely for the weighbridge being operated. Certificates are issued to an individual and are not transferable.

Is there an appeal process?

Please contact this authority in the first instance. You may appeal to the National Measurement Office if your application is refused.
