Safety

Our safety team deals with the enforcement of laws relating to the safety of consumer products. Such enforcement includes undertaking inspections, investigating complaints and giving advice to businesses.

There are dozens of laws relating to product safety so only the most common ones are listed here, contact the team for more information. The team also deals with petroleum and fireworks licensing and the sale of age restricted products.

General Product Safety Regulations 2005

These regulations underpin consumer product safety in the EU. Except where specific legislation covers particular products, these regulations specify that goods must be safe. They also place certain responsibilities on producers (those who manufacture or import) and distributors (others in the supply chain such as wholesalers and retailers).

Note: These regulations do not require that goods be marked with the CE mark. CE marking is a requirements of product specific regulations such as those identified on these pages.
