Cyril the Seal Kill U Car Talking Shop VISION Weekly Quiz Advice for Students
"talkingshop"

An online interactive education resource which gives students the opportunity to learn about their consumer rights and responsibilities by dealing with realistic consumer problems.

Working on computers in the classroom students are presented with a variety of consumer dilemmas that they have to unravel by researching links on the talkingshop website. They then send their queries and answers live to Trading Standards staff who are available to offer suggestions and advice.

The issues covered include returning faulty goods, what the law says about selling age-restricted products and buying goods on-line.

Talkingshop is a great way for children to learn valuable life skills and have fun at the same time. It meets the National Curriculum for Citizenship, Key Stage Four and is aimed principally at Year 10 pupils (aged 14 -15), although it may be suitable for other age groups.

"We found ‘talkingshop’ to be an engaging way for young people to learn about their rights and responsibilities, and it is particularly well suited to the ‘modern consumer’. I can thoroughly recommend ‘talkingshop’ to any school wishing to add a further dimension to their teaching of Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education." Secondary school teacher
