Beating Rogue Traders

Kent Trading Standards is teaming up with Ashford Borough Council's Building Control Team in a bid to beat cowboy builders who prey on elderly and vulnerable residents.  The building control officers will visit homes to assess whether the work done was necessary, has been carried out to the agreed standard and whether the price quoted was fair.

Last year we were involved in 60 rogue trader investigations, some involving threats of violence to customers. Many more cases go unreported. Visit our doorstep scam page for more information.

 

"Scam squad" team receives quality award

More than 100 Commuities directorate staff considered by members of the public and colleagues to have made a real difference to residents' lives were nominated for awards in the recent direcorate quality awards. ( News release).

The Kent Trading Standards "Scam Squad" (featured in a BBC3 TV series) were winners of the silver Team Award and were nominated for "showcasing the valuable work of the team and the vital work this service does across the whole of the UK".
