A woman who attempted to smuggle a dog into the country in breach of "Rabies" rules was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £200 costs.

A small holder who kept pigs in illegal conditions, allowed some to starve to death and moved others in breach of legal requirements, was fined a total of £1,500, ordered to pay £780 costs, and banned from keeping pigs for 10 years.

A farmer who transported sheep to market in a vehicle which had not been cleansed and disinfected since last used, and which had not been maintained to the required standards was fined a total of £800 and ordered to pay £210 costs.

A haulier who brought a consignment of horses into the county with false health certificates was given a conditional discharge after telling Magistrates he was unaware of the falsity. He was ordered to pay £390 costs. He is now under investigation for a further alleged offence of the same kind.

A stock owner who left the bodies of dead sheep to decompose was sentenced to 180 hours of Community Service for failing to dispose of the carcases in a legal manner. He was also ordered to pay £500 costs.

A pet owner who illegally brought two dogs through the Port of Dover was fined £400 and ordered to pay £610 costs. The owner failed to comply with licence conditions that required her to wait on the ferry with the animals until they were collected for quarantine.

A credit broker who traded without a licence under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 was fined £500 and ordered to pay £330 costs.

A used car dealer was fined total of £300 with £250 costs for acting as a credit broker without a licence under the Consumer Credit Act.

A sentence of 2 months imprisonment (suspended for 2 years) was imposed on a dealer in counterfeit DVDs caught at a Sheppy boot fair. He was also ordered to pay the £8,450 costs of his Crown Court trial.

A retailer who sold counterfeit "Benson & Hedges" cigarettes was fined £1,250 with £697 costs. A further fine of £250 was imposed on each partner in the business for failing to declare details of the ownership of the business by means of a notice on the premises.

A man with previous convictions for selling counterfeit CD's was convicted of aiding and abetting another to do the same thing. He had provided the stock and driven the other person to a boot fair where the other person was left in charge of the stall. He was ordered to perform 150 hours Community Service, to follow on from a similar order he was still performing, and £200 costs.

A plumber who falsely claimed membership of the Institute of Plumbing by the use of their logo in an advertisement, was given a 2 year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £357 costs.

An hotelier who refused to remove or amend his English Tourist Council approved sign following a down-rating of his accommodation, was fined £400 and ordered to pay £630 costs.

Electrical Contractors were fined a total of £8,000 for issuing certificates in respect of their work which indicated they were approved by the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contractors when they were no. Costs talling £800 were also awarded.

A company with similar previous convictions, and its director, were fined £2,000 and £1,000 respectively for selling a vehicle with a false mileage reading. They were also ordered to pay costs of £1,000 and £500 respectively.

A car dealer was convicted of having for sale three unsafe cars and one vehicle which had been clocked. He also failed to comply with the Kent County Council Act which requires second hand dealers to keep certain records. He did not keep the necessary records to show the origin or mileages of some cars and did not comply with the Business Names Act which requires the proprietors name on invoices/receipts when a business trades under a trade name. He was fined a total of £6,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,750.
