A livestock holder who failed to comply with the European Community Regulations in that a sheep carcase had not been collected, transported and identified without undue delay and disposed of or processed by a permitted method was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £325 costs.

A doorstep trader who dishonestly told a consumer that his driveway was damaged and needed repair was sentenced to 4 months imprisonment (suspended for 18 months and ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work. He is also under a supervision order for 12 months and must attend an education and employment programme for a 10 period within 12 months.

A company selling jewellery was fined a total of £6,000 and ordered to pay £8,000 in costs for applying descriptions to unhallmarked jewellery indicating they were wholly or partly made of gold/silver or platimum and also applying false trade marks to jewellery

Product safety

Date of Conviction: January 2009
Court:  Canterbury Crown Court

A motor trader who possessed for supply unsafe cars was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment (suspended for 2 years) for each of 10 offences (to run concurrently). He was ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work and for the length of the sentence is prohibited from being involved in the sale or hire of motor cars, including his own personal vehicle. If he wishes to sell his own car he will have to apply to the court for permission.
