Kent County Council Act 2001

Registration Information

Do you need to Register?

If you deal in second hand goods in Kent you will need to register unless you fall into one of the exempt categories. We have prepared a detailed guidance note which should answer any questions you may have.

The legislation will also affect occasional sales (which includes events such as boot fairs, markets and one day sales).

You can view a copy of the Act at the HMSO website. Two further resolutions aimed at reducing the administrative burden on traders were agreed by the County Council. These details are explained in the report to the County Council.

Registration will last four years, and is free of charge.

Data Protection Act 1998 - This legislation was promoted in partnership with Medway Council and Kent Police, and for the purpose of ensuring that the provisions of the Act are complied with, registration information is held on a secure database to which only these enforcement agencies have access.
