Kent Community Alcohol Partnership (KCAP)
Kent Community Alcohol Partnership (KCAP), is a partnership between Kent County Council, Kent Police, the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group (RASG), the local District Councils and health authorities.
The partnership aims to change attitudes to drinking by:
The partners are joining forces to tackle alcohol related issues within communities. Each community is different and in some cases underage sales of alcohol may be an issue whereas in another area there could be issues around the legitimate night time economy.
Police, Trading Standards and Licensing Officers are visiting retailers and publicans regularly to share information and get a clear picture of the community through the eyes of the licensee.
Local community groups are also being asked for their point of view and youngsters are being educated about the dangers of alcohol and diverted into alternative activities.
This partnership is being piloted in three areas around the county; Canterbury city centre, Edenbridge and Thanet. The scheme will be rolled out to other areas at a later date.
Everyone has a part to play in changing attitudes to drinking.
Young adult? If you are over 18 always carry ID and be prepared to show it when buying alcohol. Know your safe drinking limits and stick to them.
Under 18? Don’t ask others to buy alcohol for you; they will be committing an offence. Look for alternative ways to spend time with your friends without alcohol.
Member of the public? We want you to tell us about the problems in your community and work with us to find the most effective solution.
Alcohol retailer or publican? You are essential to the success of this initiative by ensuring that underage youngsters are not able to buy alcohol.
Parent of underage youngsters? Talk to your children about the dangers of alcohol and peer pressure.
By sharing information and ideas, and working together we can educate young people on the health consequences of excessive drinking and help tackle anti-social behaviour.
