Motor Salvage Operators

The Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 became law in October 2002 and brought into force Part 1 of the Vehicles Crime Act.

The Aims of the Act

The aim of the legislation is to make it much harder for criminals to dispose of stolen vehicles through the motor salvage industry, and it increase the chance of detection if they do.

Who is affected?

All "motor salvage operators" are required to register with the Local Authority and to keep comprehensive records of transactions. The police strictly enforce the requirements.
