Theatre GroupSTAY SAFE THEATRE SHOW The ‘Stay Safe' Theatre Show creates awareness of doorstep crime amongst the older population. Its objective is to empower them so they are able to better protect themselves and feel confident and secure in their own homes. Simple, positive, doorstep guidance is given out during the performance. The emphasis is on householders being in control, so as not to fall prey to bogus callers. The ‘Stay Safe' Theatre Show was conceived and written in conjunction between the Lancaster University Volunteering Unit, Lancashire County Council Trading Standards Service and Brian Steele, ex Detective Chief Superintendent now specialising in Doorstep Crime. The Theatre Show comprises of a series of sketches highlighting doorstep crime and distraction burglary issues. After each sketch the Compere asks questions of the Victim and Offender to understand how they were feeling/ how they think. Issues as to how the older person can help themselves stay safe are then discussed, relevant to each particular sketch. Between each sketch the audience is asked if they have any questions. In 2007-2008 over 30 performances have taken place to around 1000 older people, and we continue to receive excellent feedback and further bookings well into 2008. If you run a group which you feel would benefit from the Theatre Show please contact: Julie Waddington Email – julie.waddington@lancashire.gov.uk Below: A Scene from the Play
