Medway Council
Trading Standards Team
Welcome to Medway Trading Standards home page.
We provide advice to businesses, and through working in partnership with
Consumer Direct South East, to consumers.
The role of trading standards is to ensure that
businesses compete in a fair and safe manner, ensuring benefits for both
consumers and legitimate traders. Individual consumers would find it hard to
influence businesses about their conduct. For this reason, consumer protection
legislation makes sure goods and services are correctly described and any prices
quoted are not misleading.
The council enforces the law in the following main
areas:
- fair trading,
- safety of consumer goods,
- food standards and composition,
- underage sales,
- animal health (farm animals only),
- consumer credit,
- petrol and explosives storage,
- weights and measures (including certification of
public weighbridge operators).
You can contact trading standards at any time by email, otherwise the Advice
Service is available between 8:30am to 5:15pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to
4:45pm on Fridays. Phone on (01634) 333555, or write to us or call at the Compass
Centre, Chatham Maritime, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4YH.
