Think Jessica
Information and advice about scam mail and the Think Jessica campaign. The campaign was started by the daughter of a repeat victim of postal scams. The website covers Jessica's story alongside those of other victims, as well as Help & Advice and news stories. The campaign took part in the recent Metropolitan Police Operation Sterling and is actively working to find ways to reduce the amount of scam mail which reaches its targets. Think Jessica
Skilled to Go
New Scams module published for Skilled to go for TSS
The Office of Fair Trading has expanded its consumer education toolkit for use by local authority Trading Standards Services officers who deliver sessions in schools or with community groups.
In addition to the existing module focusing on Buying and selling, the resources now include a module on Scams – helping learners to develop the skills and knowledge to spot and avoid scams and the confidence to say no to scammers.
Developed in partnership with TSS, this module comprises ten activities, accompanied by a comprehensive Facilitator delivery guide to provide suggestions for delivery.
56% of TSS across the UK currently has a member of staff registered with Skilled to go, with feedback on the toolkit being very positive. To register and download Skilled to go materials, go to www.oft.gov.uk/skilledtogo The Scams module can be accessed from18 November 2010.
Welsh language version now available
Skilled to go resources for local authority Trading Standards Services have been updated to include a Welsh language version of the activities and delivery guides.
The toolkit comprises two modules designed to delevelop consumer skills, knowledge and confidence. As well as activities related to buying and selling, last month a new module was launched to help learners to spot and avoid scams and develop the confidence to say no to scammers. There are now contains even more games, quizzes and role plays for use by staff who deliver sessions with schools and community groups.
We are committed to ensuring the toolkit is as accessible as possible and hope that the Welsh language version will make the resources even more widely used - currently 224 TSS contacts are registered to use the toolkit.

This resource is for consumers, teachers and educators to assist in teaching all the financial literacy aspects of the citizenship curriculum. It was developed by Eastbourne Citizens Advice Bureau and East Sussex Trading Standards Service.
