Consumer Direct is a government-funded telephone and online service offering information and advice on consumer issues.

Consumer Direct is funded by the Office of Fair Trading and delivered in partnership with Local Authority Trading Standards Services. It provides clear, practical, impartial advice to help you sort out problems and disagreements you may be having with suppliers of goods or services. From overcharging to faulty goods, from dodgy workmanship to reporting dishonest traders and scams, Consumer Direct advisers are ready to offer solutions for individual problems. The advice and information is free. Telephone calls are charged for via an 0845 number, which will cost no more than 4p per minute for BT customers (NB: other networks may vary).

Consumer Support Networks (CSNs)

There are times when a single agency is unable to meet all the needs of its community. By joining up the services of local authority and voluntary advice agencies, the CSN is starting to meet the diverse needs of today's consumers. Local Trading Standards, Citizens Advice Bureaux and independent consumer advice agencies across Great Britain have come together to form Consumer Support Networks (CSNs), and we are delighted to announce that we are registered CSN members. This operates to ensure that legal services are provided to a consistently high standard, and that people needing legal advice are put in touch with the most appropriate organisation to help them. In 2002 our Advice and Information Service gained Quality Mark accreditation under this scheme.
