ScamWise
A new initiative from Trading Standards South West
In November 2006 North Somerset's Trading Standards Service joined forces with all the other Trading Standards services across the South West to launch 'Scamwise' - a new initiative to help stop people being conned by rogue traders. North Somerset's Executive Member for Environment and Community said: ‘This is a long-term campaign. Rogue traders should be aware that we are working together and sharing intelligence with the Police and our Trading Standards colleagues throughout the south west. People have a right to feel safe in their own homes and our campaign will help to protect that right.’
Leaflets for you to download The message from the Trading Standards Service to consumers is ‘Be Scamwise’. To help consumers it has made 6 new leaflets for you to download. These publications provide details of some of the most well known scams plus information on how to deal with them and who to contact for advice. Avoidance is the best tactic, and these new leaflets give advice on how to reduce junk mail, avoid telesales calls and spot internet scams. In addition there are tips to help with unwanted doorstep sellers. We have several thousand free stickers to give away which state ‘No Doorstep Sellers’. If you put these on your front door it will reduce those nuisance calls. To claim your free door sticker please contact us
