You may not be aware that Northumberland County Council regularly sample Animal Feeding Stuffs to ensure they comply with safety standards and that they are as described.

When products fail, the manufacturer and seller may be prosecuted. This happened recently in Northumberland when a High Copper salt lick was found to be 38% deficient in copper.

The Manufacturer was fined Ł2500 and the seller Ł1000.

If you feel that a product you have bought may be substandard in some way, contact Trading Standards for further advice and/or sampling.

Defra's AMES database

Defra operates the Animal Health & Welfare Management & Enforcement System (AMES). This is the computer database that local authorities use to record their work in relation to Animal Health & Welfare duties. The database consequently holds up to date information about any person with whom we have dealings under Animal Health & Welfare legislation.
