The objectives of the Licensing Act 2003 are;
· The Prevention of Crime and Disorder
· Public Safety
· The Prevention of Public Nuisance
· The Protection of Children from Harm
To achieve these objectives the Licensing department of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council has 2 strategic aims, which are to;
Promote a Safe and Diverse Night Time Economy
Reduce Crime and Disorder in Licensed Premises and Vehicles
The Act brings into force Personal and Premises Licences together with Club
Premises Certificates which between them cover the licensable activities
contained within the Act. They broadly fall within three categories: Retail
Supply of Alcohol or supply to a club member, Provision of regulated
entertainment and Late Night Refreshment.
Licensing Officers together with Police Officers will be working together to
ensure that illegal activities are not taking place through surveillance and
visits to premises. The penalty for carrying out an un-authorised activity
is a £20,000 fine and/or 6 months imprisonment.
If you have not yet applied for a personal or premises licence you MUST ACT
NOW.
