TSI response (PDF 109KB). TSI confines its comments to the proposed abolition of the Administrative Justice and Tribunals Council (AJTC). TSI believes that, during a period of rapid change to the public sector and to the bodies in that sector, the interests of the public need to be safeguarded and the abolition of the AJTC would not be in these interests.

TSI response (pdf 116KB). TSI looks forward to being embraced in the proposed consultation exercise pertaining to trading standards and the proposal to test its fitness and appropriateness to be a service subject to open commissioning. The TSI view is that the UK is best served by a locally based but nationally cohesive trading standards service model and we would counsel against any proposals that may put that at risk.

TSI response (pdf 310KB). TSI welcomes this institutional review by Government and generally agrees with its overarching aims. The UK needs a consumer policy delivery mechanism based on solid foundations - the Trading Standards Institute is that mechanism.

TSI response (PDF 111KB). TSI agrees that action is needed to combat bovine TB. It believes that, should the culling of badgers take place, only the two methods proposed (controlled shooting and cage-trapping and shooting) should be used, and then only if they are considered humane. TSI supports the strict monitoring of culling to maintain humaneness.

TSI response (PDF 371KB). TSI welcomes this consultation and the commitment to continuing better regulatory support by way of a reformed and rebranded Local Better Regulation Office. The Institute has no objection to extending the Primary Authority scheme although it has concerns pertaining to franchises and trade associations.

TSI has submitted a detailed response to this consultation which, inter alia, considers the expectations and responsibilities of young people, parents, and retailers/suppliers (but only responsibilities of enforcers - TSI has suggested some expectations) and discusses test purchasing and acceptable forms of proof of age.

TSI response (PDF 139KB). TSI acknowledges that the DfT proposals signal a significant step forward in consumer protection, but the proposals fail to protect all consumers purchasing a flight from an airline which subsequently fails.
