Deferring
Deferring is easy. All you need to do is tell TSI.
What should I do?
You need to put in writing that you want to defer your exam. You only need to do this if you have filled and returned the appropriate Exam Entry Form (Form C).
I wish to defer on medical grounds, what do I need to tell you?
Deferring on medical grounds is free of charge. You will need to provide a doctor's letter stating that you are unable to sit your exams, or a letter from your line manager explaining your circumstances.
I'm not deferring on medical grounds, what happens when I inform you?
If you are not deferring on medical grounds, TSI will charge you a deferment fee, according to the fee structure in place at the time. This fee will be based on a member and a non member rate. If you defer within one week of the exams, this will be classed as a cancellation.
When you inform TSI of your deferment you will need to provide a purchase order number (if you authority is paying) or an indication to invoice you direct.
I deferred from a previous examination cycle, what do I need to do to enter into a new exam cycle?
When you are ready to enter into the exam again, you will need to fill in the appropriate Exam Entry Form (Form C), ensuring you complete the area on deferrals. This can be found at the top of the form.
Although TSI has already invoiced for a deferment from the previous exam cycle, if entering a new exam cycle occurs in a new year, you/your authority will be charged the difference between the fee already paid and the new exam fee.
If your authority is paying, you will need to provide a purchase order number.
What is the difference between deferring and cancelling?
You can defer up to one week before your exams start. If there is less than one week remaining until your exams, this will automatically be considered as a cancellation, and no fees are refundable.
You can choose either to cancel or defer exams. If you cancel up to four weeks after the deadline you will be credited back 50% of your fees. Thereafter, no fees are refundable.
There are other circumstances where a deferral free of charge is applicable. If you feel you have extenuating circumstances, please call the Education and Training Team and they will assist.
