Young Consumers of the Year

The Young Consumers Competition is run by the Trading Standards Institute and is aimed at testing the knowledge of 14-17 year olds on a wide range of consumer issues.

The competition, which is suitable for students across the UK, helps to make students aware of their rights and responsibilities and gives them essential life skills as they prepare for the world of work and, for teachers, on many occasions links to the citizenship curriculum.

The Competition, which links to many areas of the curriculum and free to enter, is designed to test students on a wide range of consumer issues including:

  • Consumer Rights and Responsibilities
  • Money and Finance
  • Food and Health
  • Safety and the Environment
  • Europe

Further information about the Competition is available on the Young Consumers' website.

PLAYSAFE

Playsafe has been designed by the Trading Standards Institute in conjunction with the British Toy and Hobby Association to encourage a greater awareness of safety features in the design of toys.

Playsafe provides a vehicle not only for worthwhile study information but also the opportunity for innovative individual or team project work in a classroom situation and is suitable for students aged 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17.

Further information about this competition and toy safety factsheets are available from the BTHA website at http://www.btha.co.uk.
