Business - Trader Register for Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin

-----

Shropshire County Council Trading Standards Service has joined forces with Telford and Wrekin Trading Standards to introduce a Register for Home Improvement businesses. It is a website designed to help consumers locate businesses who have committed themselves to fair and honest trading practices.

Consumers are becoming increasingly concerned that when they contact a trader to carry out any building or repair work on their homes they are at risk. Programmes such as Rogue Traders and House of Horrors cause consumers to worry about overcharging and substandard work. The trader Register gives local traders an opportunity to set themselves apart from so called "cowboys".

The trader signs up to a code of practice which includes offering a commitment to fair and honest trading practices. The Register is not an approval scheme, but aims to reassure consumers that Traders who have signed up for the scheme, will work closely with Trading Standards.

Trader Register

The Register covers all trades within the home improvement sector, including external building works and driveways, to name a few.

The Trader Register Team offer advice to businesses and assist them to negotiate with consumers if a problem arises.
