Switchover to Digital TV
You may have heard that all television broadcasts
will be digital in the next few years. This is called
Digital Switchover.
The date when the present 'analogue' broadcasts
stops has yet to be finalised but when this happens
consumers need to ensure that any televisions and video
recorders they use can receive digital signals. The
most common digital TV platforms at present are terrestrial
(Freeview), satellite (Sky) and cable (NTL/Telewest).
To help consumers make the right choices
about information and services, the Government has introduced
a digital switchover labelling scheme.
For retailers, the standards are focused on training
staff to ensure a good standard of advice, availability
of a the Government guide "buying a TV or video
recorder" and in store labelling. It is expected
that this will be appearing in stores and on products
during November 2004.
