Bag a Bargain in the New Year
Sales
Whatever the post Christmas and New Year period
holds for you – be prepared. If you are looking
for a bargain in the sales or returning unwanted
or faulty
presents it is worth knowing your rights. South Tyneside
Trading Standards have some tips so you know where you
stand legally.
Shop around as even in the sales it’s worth comparing
the prices of a few shops to check that you saving the
most money.
Look for shops that guarantee that their price is the
lowest. Some shops will undercut competitors if you
see the same goods elsewhere but cheaper. Read the small
print price matching may not apply to sale goods or
Internet retailers.
Check the Internet for bargains even some major high
street retailers’ offer even bigger discounts
online or you may be able to cut out the middleman and
deal directly with the manufacturer online. Many insurance
companies do offer extra discounts if you buy online
and you may be able to deal directly with them and not
through a broker.
Sale goods must be correctly priced but remember you
cannot benefit from a shop’s mistake. If goods
have been priced incorrectly you cannot insist that
the retailer sells it to you at that price, but the
shop may have committed a criminal offence.
