South Tyneside 'Safetrader' extended
to motor trade |

|
South Tyneside's popular 'Safetrader'
Scheme for building contractors was extended on 1 March
2005 to include businesses in the motor trade.
Complaints from residents about the car sales and repairs
sectors are second only to those in the building industry.
Trading Standards is determined to tackle this problem
and believe that including reputable businesses on its
'Safetrader' register will be valuable to local people."
The successful building contractors scheme for local
legitimate business engaged in the building industry
was launched in February 2003 and has a high satisfaction
rate among users and the majority of businesses report
an increase in trade since joining.
To be registered traders must abide by the terms and
conditions of the scheme and are subject to audits by
trading standards and background checks eg Office of
Fair Trading and County Court Judgement records. They
must also have a robust complaints procedure that works
and agree to abide by a strict code of practice that
ensures that consumers get a fair deal.
In the unlikely event of a complaint not being resolved
between retailer and consumer, registered traders agree
to arbitration by the Trading Standards Service.
Visit 'Safetraders'
for further information and members
for the list of motor traders registered.
