Council Issues Warning
Over Bogus Callers |
20 Jun 2005 |
People in South Tyneside are being asked to beware
of bogus callers claiming to be from South Tyneside
Council following reports of cold callers offering financial
and gardening services.
The warning, which highlights the dangers of bogus
callers, comes from the Council's Trading Standards
Team and the Borough's Area Housing Offices.
Councillor Michael Clare, Lead Member Neighbourhood
Services, said: "Officers from any Council department
carry identification and would be happy to show it.
Workers carrying out repairs or garden services may
have Council uniforms and travel in a vehicle with a
South Tyneside logo."
If a resident is in doubt about anyone claiming to
be a representative from the Council, they should verify
that person's credentials by contacting the appropriate
Council department via the Council switchboard on (0191)
427 1717.
For further information or advice, contact the Council's
Consumer Advice Section at South Shields Town Hall on
(0191) 424 7897/7996.
