Council Issues Warning
On Electric Hair Clippers |
16 Dec 2005 |
South Tyneside Council Trading Standards has today
issued a warning about dangerous electric hair clippers
which may have been bought as Christmas presents.
Anyone who has bought the Avensis Glider Pro Clipper
Processional hair cutting set model number HK-2065 (which
is marked on the item) should contact the Council's
consumer advice service as soon as possible.
Councillor Michael Clare Lead Member Neighbourhood
Services says: "The Trading Standards Service has
been alerted by a lady who suffered an electric shock
when using these clippers. They were bought from a shop
in King Street and an initial examination has shown
that the plugs do not comply with the law and there
is therefore insufficient protection for the user. Potential
hazards so far identified are that the plug may explode
and/or the cabling will overheat to such a level that
melt down will occur. The matter is now under investigation."
He adds: "This incident shows that there are hazards
in purchasing goods which cannot be identified by even
the most careful purchaser. These items are CE marked
which is the importers verification mark that the goods
comply with all appropriate law and are safe."
Anyone with these items should contact Consumer Advice
on 424 7896 or 424 4402.
