Save Energy And Save Money With
New Council Leaflet! |
27 Sept 2006 |
People in South Tyneside are being given advice on
how they can save money this winter by making their
homes more energy efficient.
South Tyneside Council's Trading Standards and Home
Energy teams have teamed up to produce a leaflet full
of handy hints on how people can reduce their household
fuel bills.
The free leaflet is available from the consumer advice
centres at South Shields and Jarrow Town Halls as well
as libraries across the Borough.
Councillor Michael Clare, Lead Member Environment,
Housing and Transport, said: "This leaflet is
full of simple steps we can all take to improve energy
efficiency in our homes. Though they are relatively
small tasks they can, when totalled up, result in huge
savings on household energy bills.
"The impact of such simple measures may come
as a surprise to some people. For example, turning
your thermostat down by 1°C can cut your heating
bills by up to 10 per cent. There's also advice on
looking out for the energy efficiency grading when
choosing new household appliances such as fridges,
washing machines and ovens which can help people save
up to £45 a year. The leaflet explains how and
why.
He added: "We have produced this leaflet as part
of our 'Do Your Bit!' campaign to make the Borough
a cleaner, greener and safer place. By following the
steps in the leaflet, people can not only save money,
but help to preserve our natural resources."
