Scrap Metal Dealer RegistrationLicence SummaryTo be a scrap metal dealer, you need to register with your local authority. A scrap metal dealer shall be classed as carrying on a business in the local authority area if any of the following apply:

Applications are subject to a 28 day consultation period. To ensure that the premises meets the requirements of the Act the Local Authority and Cleveland Police may inspect the premises. Applicants must provide the following:
The registered dealer must notify the local authority of any changes to these details or if they cease to be a scrap metal dealer. It is our aim to complete the application process within 30 working days. If your application is successful your registration will run for three years from the date it is granted. Please note that tacit consent does not apply in respect of this application. It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from the local authority within a reasonable period, please contact it.
