Animal Health

To ensure the health & wellbeing of agricultural livestock our Animal Health Officers regularly check farms & markets, movement control records are kept & inspected and farm animal legislation is enforced in line with DEFRA guidelines. These controls are in place to:

• Prevent, eradicate and control animal and poultry diseases
• Prepare and maintain emergency contingency arrangements
• Protect the welfare of livestock and poultry, wherever situated
• Safeguard human health

As the statutory animal health and welfare authority for the Vale of Glamorgan our activities include inspections at all premises handling live animals and checks during transport. Our team of Animal Health Inspectors provide advice and guidance to the agricultural community to help compliance and ease the burden of newly generated legislation, which particularly emanated from Foot & Mouth and BSE.
